Worldwide community of the biomass world, from politics to research and technology, met to face in Lisbon, Portugal on 27-31 May at EUBCE 2019, the challenges of the climate change and focus on the role of biomass in delivering the Paris targets and sustainable development goals. The conference was attended by Dr. Marta Pogrzeba, which presented the results of research leading in \u00a0the MISCOMAR project.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dr. M. Pogrzeba at the session \u2013 Biomass crops for bioenergy, biomaterials and ecosystem presented poster \u2013 Economic and Environmental Advantages of Miscanthus Cultivation on Marginal Lands, lesson learned from the MISCOMAR Project<\/a><\/strong>. The poster presents the results of research on determining the technical potential of novel Miscanthus hybrids to deliver biomass production options on marginal and contaminated land, and to determine and quantify changes in soil health and structure under these crops.<\/p>\n

EUBCE 2019 conference \u2013 European Biomass Conference & Exhibition<\/a><\/strong>, held in Lizbon in Portugal was a 27th edition. It was attended by over 1,700 delegates from 81 countries who sent over 1,100 summaries and presented 900 presentations.

Maria DA GRA\u00c7A CARVALHO, EUBCE Conference General Chair, European Commission,<\/strong> Directorate-General Research and Innovation, Member Scientific Advice Mechanism Unit, just promoted to MEP (Member of European Parliament)<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cEUBCE 2019 has been a fantastic forum for exchange of knowledge and information in the area\u00a0of Biomass and Bioenergy including scientists, industrialists, policy makers, and NGOs. The Conference covered a variety of issues, such\u00a0as\u00a0the contribution of biomass to the Paris targets, the sustainability of biomass and the importance of the science-based policy making in the area of biomass.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Giovanni DE SANTI, European Commission, Joint Research Centre, Director of the Directorate for Sustainable Resources made a Keynote Speech on the topic <\/strong>From<\/strong> Biomass to Bioeconomy for a new Sustainability in Europe<\/p>\n

\u201cSustainable Development is the core of EU policy agenda. Rapid transition towards a new sustainable, circular and low carbon economy is crucial. \/\u2026\/ The bioeconomy we want in the EU, and in fact globally, must to be sustainable and as circular as possible. The transition towards a circular bioeconomy will need all stakeholders, at regional, national, EU and international level.
