The webinar addressed main issues related to Horizon Europe 2021-2027 Mission Area \u201cSoil Health and Food\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" lang=\"en-GB\">Soils are essential for life on earth, providing food, clean water and habitats for biodiversity, contributing to climate resilience and supporting our cultural heritage and landscapes. However, they are threatened by human activities including unsustainable management practices and contamination from industries. In this context, the next 10 years will be critical in terms of engaging Europe in a real agroecological transition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">Dr. Marta Pogrzeba, prof. IETU, the member of <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/horizon-europe\/missions-horizon-europe\/soil-health-and-food_en#what\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Mission \u201cSoil Health and Food\u201d<\/span><\/a> presented objectives of the Horizon Europe Mission \u201cCaring for Soil is Caring for Life\u201d. <\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">The mission\u2019s goal is to <\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\"><i>\u201censure that 75% of soils are healthy by 2030 and are able to provide essential ecosystem services\u201d, <\/i><\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">such as the provision of food and other biomass, supporting biodiversity, storing and regulating the flow of water, or mitigating the effects of climate change.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">Representatives from Aberystwyth University, Terravesta Ltd, Environment Systems (UK), University of Hohenheim (DE), University of Silesia in Katowice, Pro-Akademia, Institute foe Soil Science and Plant Cultivation (PL) and also IETU discussed the capacity soil health improvement taking into account variety of spatial scales, <\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">experiences and good practices as well as <\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">integrated and holistic approach to soil and ecosystem health. They tried to answer on the very important questions: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"en-GB\">What research and innovation are most needed to accomplish the Mission \u201cCaring for Soil is caring for life\u201d objectives and goals?<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"en-GB\">What support and activities are needed to achieve the Mission objectives? <\/span><\/li>\n<li>What could be the barriers to their achievement?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"western\" lang=\"en-GB\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><i>What is the chance to popularize the use of living lab and lighthouse? this question always causes a very interesting discussion \u2013 <\/i>said dr. Marta Pogrzeba, prof. IETU who moderated the meeting.<i> \u2013 Living labs on soil sciences should taking into account what is the land use transition, duration of the measures and observation and finally how to keep them founded.
