The International Phytotechnology Conference organised by the International Society of Phytotechnology took place on 1-5 October 2018 in Novi Sad, Serbia. As every year, the conference was an opportunity for scientists and practitioners from around the world to present the latest results of research and implementation in the field of phytotechnology.<\/p>\n

Dr. Marta Pogrzeba presented the results of research conducted by IETU in the paper: \"Seasonal changes in the distribution of heavy metals and macronutrients in aerial seed parts of Miscanthus and M. x giganteus grown on contaminated arable land\" (M. Pogrzeba, J. Krzy\u017cak, S. Rusinowski). Dr. Marta Pogrzeba also conducted the first part of the session dedicated to remediation of soils contaminated with metals.<\/p>\n

During the conference the results of research carried out by IETU scientists together with researchers from the University of Aberystwyth in Great Britain were also presented (E.F. Jensen, K. Rolt, M. Mos, S. Rusinowski, J. Krzy\u017cak, M. Pogrzeba, B. Perkins, A. Brown, T. Williams, P. Stanley: \"Phytostabilisation of lead and zinc contaminated mine spoil using perennial energy crops\"). The paper was presented by Dr. Elaine Jensen from the University of Aberystwyth. The 15th International Phytotechnology Conference coincided with the 60th anniversary of the Institute of Forestry and Environment at the University of Novi Sad. The Conference participants got acquainted with the history and research results of the Institute. A visit was also an opportunity to establish contacts with Serbian scientists.<\/p>\n

\r\n Phytotechnology uses natural capabilities of selected plant species and related microorganisms for growth and development in contaminated areas, as well as - depending on the way the plants affect the contaminated ecosystem - for the uptake, stabilisation or detoxification of contaminants.<\/strong><\/div>\r\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
