Dr Marta Pogrzeba, Professor IETU was received the title of Professor

We are pleased to announce that in accordance with the decision of the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, dated 29 July 2024, dr hab. Marta Pogrzeba, prof. IETU has been nominated Professor of Engineering Sciences in the field of Environmental, Mining and Power Engineering.

Prof. Marta Pogrzeba is currently the Director of IETU. Her scientific specialisations are environmental biotechnology, environmental engineering and protection, and environmental ecotoxicology. Since 2011 she has been heading the research area soil remediation, NBS and urban agriculture at IETU. He conducts research in national and international projects on phytoremediation (phytoextraction, phytostabilisation) of heavy metal contaminated soils, assessment of phytotoxicity of substrates for plants, construction of plant covers on contaminated sites, construction of substitute substrates from waste materials. Her current research focuses on the use of energy crops in soil remediation processes and the use of biomass as an energy source.

She is a member of the Presidium of the Committee on Environmental Protection and Waste Management of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Programme Committee on Environmental Protection of the University of Silesia and the International Phytotechnology Society.

Her scientific output includes more than 90 publications. From September 2019 to January 2022, she was a Mission Board Member of the Horizon Europe 2021-2027 Framework Programme in the area of Clean Soils and Food ("Soil Health and Food"), and from 2020-2021 an expert in two European Commission EIP AGRI focus groups "Protecting agricultural soils from contamination" and "Sustainable industrial crops in Europe". Since 2020 he is an expert of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Science) in the group supporting Poland's participation in the new European partnership under the Horizon Europe programme 'Circular bio-based Europe'.
