During a meeting at the Primary School No. 4 the inhabitants of Ruda Śląska were shown how the heap located in the vicinity of the 1 May Street in Wirek would look like after the revitalisation process. The site which is now an example of a wasteland will soon become a place of recreation.
It is planned that works on the post-zinc heap, situated almost in the very centre of Ruda Śląska, will start in the second half of the year, says Dr. Anna Starzewska from IETU, coordinator of the LUMAT project (Implementation of Sustainable Land Use in Integrated Environmental Management of Functional Urban Areas).
This area is expected to become a place of rest and relaxation, with walking paths and a toboggan run. Works are to be completed in 2019.
Among the participants of the meeting were: Michał Pierończyk - Deputy Mayor of Ruda Śląska, Dr. Anna Starzewska-Sikorska - Project Coordinator, Dr. Krzysztof Rostański, Associate Professor of the Silesian University of Technology - a representative of the heap remediation contractors, and inhabitants.
