RISERS Final Conference – How Europe Can Drive Cross-Sector Resource Efficiency

The Institute for Ecology of Industrial Areas (IETU), a partner in the RISERS – A Roadmap for Industrial Symbiosis Standardisation for Efficient Resource Sharing project, is co-organising the project’s Final Conference: “How Europe Can Drive Cross-Sector Resource Efficiency: Upscaling Industrial Symbiosis through Standardisation.”
The conference will take place on 3 November 2026 in Brussels and online and is an official World Circular Economy Forum – WCEF2026 Side Event.
The event will bring together representatives of industry, research and innovation, policymaking and the standardisation community to discuss how Europe can accelerate the wider uptake of industrial symbiosis, enabling more efficient use and exchange of resources across companies and sectors.
The conference will present the key results of the RISERS project, including the Roadmap for Industrial Symbiosis Standardisation, which identifies priority standardisation needs and directions for future action to support the wider implementation of industrial symbiosis in Europe.
Discussions will focus on three key areas:
- policy and regulation – what needs to change to create enabling conditions for the wider implementation of industrial symbiosis;
- research and innovation – how R&I results can contribute more effectively to standardisation and be translated into practical solutions supporting market uptake;
- industry needs – what barriers and opportunities businesses face and what they need to scale industrial symbiosis in practice.
The programme will include expert presentations, panel discussions and networking opportunities, bringing together different communities working towards a more circular and resource-efficient European economy.
IETU is a RISERS project partner and co-organiser of the Final Conference. Within the project, IETU contributes to communication and dissemination activities and supports stakeholder engagement around future directions for industrial symbiosis standardisation.
