FRANCESCA – Furniture Renewal and Alternative New Circular Efficiency Strategies through Creative Approaches

FRANCESCA (Furniture Renewal and Alternative New Circular Efficiency Strategies through Creative Approaches) is a project funded under the Horizon Europe programme (grant agreement no. 101182003). It aims to support the European furniture sector in transitioning to a circular economy model by developing and implementing innovative solutions that cover the entire furniture lifecycle, from design and production to use, repair, reuse, recycling, and material recovery.

This includes developing tools to assess the circularity of furniture designs, implementing sustainable and bio-based materials, creating business models based on reuse and services ('Furniture as a Service'), and using digital product passports and industrial symbiosis platforms. The project will produce demonstrators of circular design, innovative materials and new service models for the furniture industry.

IETU's role is to conduct activities related to the implementation and assessment of environmental technologies, using the Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) methodology. The Institute will support the validation process of innovative solutions developed within the project, assessing their environmental performance and supporting the implementation of reliable, scalable circular technologies within the European furniture sector.
