Marta Pogrzeba among experts of the new EIP-AGRI Focus Groups

In 2019, as part of the European Innovation Partnership for Agricultural Productivity and Sustainability, five new Focus Groups were set up. The topics addressed by the experts of the new groups include: wildlife and agricultural production, sustainable industrial crops in Europe, reducing the plastic footprint of agriculture, sustainable beef production systems and climate-smart (sub) tropical food crops in the EU.

Experts who will work in the new Focus Groups were selected from among 350 candidates. One of the experts of the EIP-AGRI Focus Group: Sustainable Industrial Crops in Europe is Dr. Marta Pogrzeba, Prof. of IETU.

What do Focus Groups do?

The Focus Groups of the European Innovation Partnership for Agricultural Productivity and Sustainability (EIP-AGRI) are temporary groups of selected experts focusing on a specific agricultural subject and sharing knowledge and experience. The Group explores innovative solutions to the problems and opportunities for scientific research in a given field, and also analyses the effectiveness of new good practices. Each EIP-AGRI Focus Group meets twice and produces an outcomes and recommendations report.

Since 2019 Dr. Marta Pogrzeba, Prof. of IETU has also been a member of EIP-AGRI Focus Group: Protecting Agricultural Soils from Contamination.

EIP for more productive and sustainable agriculture and forestry

The European Innovation Partnership for Agricultural Productivity and Sustainability (EIP-AGRI) was initiated by the European Commission in 2012. Its purpose is to contribute to the implementation of the European Strategy for Smart, Sustainable and Inclusive Growth. It aims at fostering a competitive and sustainable agriculture and forestry sector that "achieves more with less." It contributes to ensuring a stable supply of food, feed and biomaterials as well as sustainable management of basic natural resources which agriculture and forestry depend on, acting in harmony with the environment. To achieve this goal, EIP-AGRI brings together actors - farmers, advisors, scientists, entrepreneurs, NGOs, etc. and helps build a bridge between scientific research and practice.

EIP – a new approach to innovation

European Innovation Partnerships constitute a new approach to research and innovation. Five European Innovation Partnerships help to pool expertise and resources by connecting public and private sectors at EU, national and regional levels. All EIPs focus on social benefits and rapid modernisation. They foster collaboration between research and innovation partners so that they can achieve better and faster results when compared with the existing approaches.
