TExTOUR – press conference about interactive educational classes for children at the Historic Silver Mine in Tarnowskie Góry
On 15th of September 2023 in the Historical Silver Mine in Tarnowskie Góry, a press conference was held to promote the educational product developed under the TExTOUR project. These are the interactive educational classes for the primary school’s children (I-IV), which will be held in the underground of The Historical Silver Mine in Tarnowskie Góry from the 1st of October 2023. The conference was attended by representatives of the Tarnowskie Góry Land Lovers Association, the Institute for Ecology of Industrial Areas, the Locativo company, School No. 9 and journalists from Silesian radio stations and newspapers.
Mr. Zbigniew Pawlak, President of Tarnowskie Góry Land Lovers Association, has emphasized the importance of mining and education in this area, with a focus on the opportunities to engage all children's senses. Dr. Joanna Piasecka from IETU has presented the main objectives of the TExTOUR project and the good cooperation between the Mine, the IETU and Locativo company, which has resulted in three actions taken to develop cultural tourism in our Silesian UNESCO area. Representatives of School No. 9, whose students participated with great commitment in testing of educational activities, also have expressed their opinions and impressions. Finally, Mr. Adam Kałucki from Locativo described in detail what the educational classes at the Mine will look like.
Modern out-of-school education in the creative environment provided by the Mine allows for multi-sensory experience, self-discovery and learning about various phenomena. Children embark on a 90-minute journey in search of silver. In a new unfamiliar environment, they calm down. They are given helmets, maps and notebooks with pencils. During the activities they also use other simple props, such as a thermometer, a rangefinder, test tubes into which they draw water, flashlights. They can touch mud, get their hands dirty, and shell a rock. They experience total darkness, which is interrupted by a lit torch. Well-trained educators, who are the guides in the underground, are ready for a real challenge and open-ended questions posed by the children, and the whole activities are prepared so that they can be continued at school.
